Orientation and Mobility Training - Orientation is the process of using sensory information to establish and maintain one’s position in the environment; mobility is the process of moving safely, efficiently, and gracefully within one’s environment. The ultimate goal of O and M instruction is for persons with V.I. to be able to travel in any environment as independently as possible.

Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) - Provides and coordinates specialized instruction. Caseloads include students in age from birth through 21. The TVI provides and coordinates specialized instructions to compensate for vision loss in the home, school, or community, and recommends accommodations and modifications for access to the general curriculum.

The Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) is the body of knowledge and skills that are needed by students with visual impairments due to their unique disability-specific needs. Students with visual impairments need the Expanded Core Curriculum in addition to the core academic curriculum of general education. The ECC should be used as a framework for assessing students, planning individual goals and providing instruction. The ECC includes compensatory or functional academic skills, including communication modes, orientation and mobility, social interaction skills, independent living skills, recreation and leisure skills, career education, use of assistive technology, sensory efficiency skills and self-determination.
